Bimetallic aluminum clad steel strand >> Added value to the conductor
Alumosteel bimetallic conductors are made of bonded metals (aluminum/steel) that form an elastic line of co-working metals which renders the final product a perfectly bonded. For that reason it must be regarded on one single elongation mode coeficient and single breaking load number.
Thus, the AS conductor can withstand higher operation temperatures (up to 150º C) than that of traditional AAC or ACSR conductors (75° C). It is, however, necessary to limit the AS maximum operation temperature to 125° C due to mechanical restrictions during installation regarding sagging values.
Because of the same restrictions ACSR conductors may suffer mechanical flow as a result of the fact that the steel core and the aluminum wires are not bonded.
